We're thrilled to announce the winners of the 2011-2012 Story Contest!
The Dragon's Ending by Haley Barrett, Willink Middle School
The Soggy Rat by Anna Raynor, Dake Junior High
Congratulations, and thank you to everyone who participated! Don't miss Ad Hoc Breaks a Leg, where we'll premiere the musical works that their stories inspired!
The 11-12 Story Contest is closed. Check back soon for information on next year's programs.
We’re thrilled to offer a chance for students to think imaginatively and musically, and to test out their writing skills along the way. Since so many of our concerts this year will feature pieces based on stories, we thought we’d offer you the chance to contribute stories of your own.
In the next couple of months, we’ll review up to 500 story submissions and choose one of them to become an original musical composition by Timmothy Baker, Ad Hoc concertmaster and composer. The piece based on the winning story will be premiered in a 2012 Ad Hoc concert. (Online bonus! Want to hear a few of Timmothy's compositions? Click here to see Ad Hoc's performance of Timmothy's Elegy in August, 2011, and here to listen to the premiere broadcast of his Illusions for solo violin during Ad Hoc's performance on WXXI's Backstage Pass.)
Excited? We are too. And we know you’re itching for details, so here they are:
Who can participate?
Any student in grades 6, 7, or 8.
What are the requirements?
We’re asking you to submit a story between 400 and 1,000 words in length that you think will make a great piece of music. Submissions will be due March 1, 2012. You’ll need permission from a parent/guardian to participate, and you should make sure your teacher knows that you’re planning to participate, as well.
How do I submit my story?
First, ask a parent to use the form below to register you as a participant. You *must* have a parent/guardian do this for you, and you do *not* need to submit your story when you register. It's more like an RSVP - you're telling us that you plan to participate. *
If you’re one of the first 500 people to register, your parent/guardian will get an entry number and detailed instructions on how to submit your story, as well as some helpful resources to pass along to you.**
Then start writing! We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

*"But what if I can’t register online?" you ask. No problem. Have a parent call the Christ Church administrative office - 585-454-3878 - and say s/he wants to register you for the Ad Hoc Story Contest. S/he can provide the same information over the phone, and you’ll be all set.
**We reserve the right to change the rules if we think we need to, and we reserve the right to reject any registration and/or story submission if we think we need to. (We don’t really plan on doing either of those things, but just in case, we’re putting it in the fine print.)

Privacy:
We think that connecting online is one of the fastest, simplest ways of organizing this contest. But we also know that it's important for everyone - especially young people - to keep their privacy. So here's what you need to know: we will keep the information that you submit through the end of the contest period, and after that, we'll delete it unless you tell us otherwise. This information will only be used to give you information or updates about the 11-12 Story Contest. When your child submits a story, s/he will need to provide limited personal information with it such as his/her name, grade, school, etc. This information will only be shared with the six fantastic musicians and educators who have kindly volunteered to be panelists for the 11-12 Story Contest, and we're happy to let you know who they are - just e-mail info@adhoc-music.org. That personal information will also be deleted after the contest period is over. You can ask us to stop contacting you or your child at any time. Our website is powered by Weebly - to learn how Weebly collects IP addresses or cookies, visit http://www.weebly.com/privacy.php. And finally, if you prefer not to register online, you can always register by calling Christ Church, which provides us with administrative support, at 585-454-3878 and leaving your information there.
